Welcome! Studio policies help teachers clarify to students (and their parents or guardians) their goals, rules, and business policies. These policies eliminate ambiguity and can serve as both a reference guide and a springboard for discussion.

About Me:  Formerly an instructor of voice and music department chair at Caper College, in Casper, WY, where I worked for nine years. I hold a bachelor’s degree in voice performance from Ithaca College and a master’s degree in voice performance from Indiana University. I also did postgraduate study at the University of Northern Colorado. I have extensive performance experience in opera, musical theater, and choral music, as well as performing as a soloist in  orchestral works and solo and chamber recitals. Previous students have attended prestigious institutions of higher education and competed in local, regional, and national voice competitions. I have former students who have gone on to performing careers in opera, theater, and television. I have experience working with many different types of people, including students with physical impediments, learning disabilities, students on the autism spectrum, and students in gender transition. I work to develop a curriculum suited to each individual’s needs and learning style. I am also a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and have held leadership positions in MTNA.

 

Teacher Goals for my students:

My goal as a music teacher is to treat each student individually and help them achieve their musical aspirations, whatever they may be. My teaching style is flexible with an emphasis on healthy vocal technique, body awareness, and artistry, and I strongly believe that classical vocal technique is invaluable to any style of vocal performance. I recently completed a yoga teacher training course and am a 200 RYT (registered yoga teacher) with the Yoga Alliance. Much of my focus in the voice studio is on mind-body-voice connections. I believe that most students flourish with small, concrete goals and positive reinforcement. My responsibilities as a teacher are:

  • Teach healthy vocal technique, covering the following topics:

    • Alignment

    • Proper breathing for singing

    • Phonation

    • Articulation

    • Resonance

    • Effective practice techniques

    • Appropriate vocal repertoire

    • Performance techniques and musicianship

    • Care for the singing voice

  • Create a personalized curriculum to meet the needs of each student

  • Provide a positive learning environment to cultivate a love of music

  • Further my own teaching abilities and credential through the following:

    • Maintain memberships in professional organizations

    • Attend conferences and workshops

    • Engage in other professional development

 

Student Responsibilities:

  • Arrive on time and prepared

  • Practice 30 minutes, six times per week; see attached practice guidelines

  • Listen to recording of previous lesson within 48 hours of the lesson

  • Bring required materials to lessons:

    • Assigned music

    • Pencils

    • Lesson notebook

    • Recording device (phone app or voice recorder)

  • Maintain on-time payment for lessons

  • Communicate questions or concerns

  • Purchase required books and materials

 

Payment Policies:​

  • I offer two lesson time lengths:

    • 30 minutes: $120 per month

    • 60 minutes: $200 per month

  • Tuition will be due for the entire month at the first lesson of each month. Please note that the monthly price is the same regardless of the number of weeks in any given month. Monthly pricing is an average for the entire year.

  • Monthly lesson fees will be pro-rated for students who begin after the first week of the month. In unusual circumstances such as months with major holidays or me taking vacation time, lesson fees may be adjusted for the month.

  • No refunds will be given. Missed lessons may be made up per the missed lesson policy (below). Refunds will not be given should the student decide to end lessons before the end of the month.

  • An additional fee may be charged for studio recitals to cover space rental and accompanist fees.

  • Payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card. 

  • I will be teaching at the following locations:

  • I am also available to travel to your home. An additional fee will be assessed.

 

Missed Lessons/Make-up Lessons:

  • Tuition is due whether or not the student attends the lesson. I plan and provide a place for students; therefore, missed lessons cannot be deducted from your tuition. No refunds will be given for cancelled lessons.

  • A make-up lesson will be offered at the teacher's convenience if the lesson is missed for the following reasons:

    • Schools closed due to inclement weather

    • Out-of-town trips when I am given at least two weeks advance notice

    • Illness. Please notify me by 9am on the morning of the lesson if you are too ill to attend.

    • Emergencies

  • A make-up lesson will not be offered in the following situations:

    • Poor weather, but the school district is open

    • Appointments, such as dentists and doctors that are not emergencies

    • Other activities, such as sports, dance, gymnastics, debate team, etc. In these cases you may attempt to trade lesson times with another student. Please inform me of schedule changes.

    • Lack of practice. This does not constitute an emergency.

    • Any lesson missed without advance notice

  • If I must miss a lesson for illness or a scheduling conflict, the lesson will be made up as soon as it can be rescheduled.
